Choose a Good
Surgeon
Choosing the ophthalmologist who will perform your laser vision correction
surgery is an important decision. Take the time to ask questions and
consider your choices carefully.
Here are
some topics to keep in mind when looking for a LASIK surgeon:
-
You
Only Have Two Eyes - Go To a Specialist
Choose a surgeon who specializes in vision correction / refractive
procedures. The most highly trained LASIK surgeons are corneal specialists
and have an additional full year of LASIK training. You'd want a
specialist for your heart surgery - don't settle for anything less than a
specialist for your eyes.
It should be more than just the surgeon who is the specialist. The quality
of the staff directly affects your experience. You'll want to know that
you have a highly trained team of experts assisting you at every step in
the process.
-
Personalized Care, Not Assembly Line Medicine
There are a lot of refractive surgeons to choose from - look for someone
you can trust to tell you "no" as well as "yes." LASIK is not for
everyone, and a good LASIK surgeon will discuss other refractive options
that may be better for you.
Expect a customized treatment plan. Current technology allows the surgeon
to image a virtual "fingerprint" of your eye and craft a treatment plan
specifically for you. You'll live with the results of your laser eye
surgery for the rest of your life - make sure you're getting a solution
tailored to your individual lifestyle needs.
Make sure the surgeon has plenty of time for questions. Doctors may no
longer make house calls, but you still want someone with a good "bedside
manner." Establishing a rapport with your surgeon can give you additional
confidence and allow you the freedom to make the right eye care choice for
you.
High-volume facilities sometimes hire LASIK eye surgeons fresh out of
training and pay them on a per-eye basis. This system rewards a high
volume of patients and a high turnover among surgeons. Ask how long the
surgeon has been at the facility; make a judgment as to how long they will
continue to be there. The facility should offer at least one year of
enhancements and stand behind their results.
-
Better
Vision through Advanced Technology
Look for a LASIK eye surgeon who stays state-of-the-art with the latest
technologies. Equipment and techniques are continually updated and you'll
want to know that your surgeon is using Wavefront guided Custom LASIK, eye
tracking lasers and Wavefront diagnostics.
A surgeon can't get state-of-the-art results in a less than
state-of-the-art facility. Make sure that the surgery center is dedicated
to LASIK and reflects the latest FDA safety and quality guidelines
regarding HEPA filtration, climate control, and an uninterruptible power
supply.
I
am personally very excited by the many different ways refractive surgery
can improve every aspect of our vision. My colleagues and I constantly
innovate and adapt new techniques. It is our job to know what works, how,
why and for whom but whatever the technology, it must be safe and
predictable before we offer it to patients. Techniques and methods change
all the time and Dream Vision Laser Centre brings you what we feel is the best
method to correct your vision.
I look forward to meeting you and answering your questions with the
objectivity and personal attention of an experienced surgeon.
On behalf of the staff at Dream Vision Laser Centre, I would like to thank you
for your interest.
I have been doing refractive surgery for last 20 years and have found that
out of a spectrum of refractive surgery like Customized wave front guided
Lasik, Lasek, PRK,. RK, A.K., Phakic IOL & Clear Lens Extraction
with or without IOL, which procedure is safer and better of an individual
patient depends lots on a decision of an experienced eye surgeon who
without any bias and experience of all these procedures can give best
results in terms of patient’s satisfaction and credit to the center.
For us the most important daily challenge is to find the right procedure
for each patient. Our success is not measured in the minutes taken for
each procedure, but in the nearly 20 years it has taken to build up trust
and the continuity of results.
The human eye is an astonishing organ. We have great respect for it and so
should you. Any surgery that improves your vision will inevitably have
some small risks and discomforts and we want you to be absolutely clear:
both in your vision and in your decision. Together with you we can select
which procedure will suit your lifestyle, choices and most of all your
body.
